School comparrisons

Past/Present
LI: To make comparisons between the past and present

Use the photos on picasa (or the Internet) to create a photographic comparison that shows three changes in schools over time.

Yesterday
Today
*
100 years ago teachers learnt their skills in the classroom.
*
Today teachers go to university for four years before they can teach a class.
*
In the olden day schools students use too get milk instead of fruit.

This is buckets of fruit. In our days we get given a bucket of fruit too every class in the school.
*
This was schools doing sports in their uniform. That was in the olden days.
*
This is in our days schools playing squash in our P.E kit. It was alot of fun.

This is my work I have completed. It is a comparison of the olden day school and now days. The comparisons I made was about the sport, fruit, and the teachers. Both schools were very different.

Novel Study Book

This is the book I am reading for Novel Study. The group I am in is reading this book, then every time we start or finish a new page then we have to record it in our novel study then answer all the question. This task should usually take a whole week because there's day 1 or the way to day 6. I am nearly finish with my novel study. It helps me learn different words like more interesting words to use in my writing.

Xtramath Screenshot

This is my screenshot of my result on xtramath. I only got 1 wrong. I need to practice harder on learning my tables off my heart and to keep practising. Xtramaths is a fun and educational learn site that helps you with your plus, minus, and times tables.

Sugata Mitra Information Report

Agents of Change can make a difference in children’s education

Who do you know that is an agent of change? Sugata Mitra is one of them because he introduced technology to places where they had never seen a computer before because of this he also opened peoples eyes and changed lives. He used his science background to create his experiment, the hole in the wall. Professor Mitra’s experiment is a computer that is in the wall. He created it to show that children can learn without being taught by teachers physically. This has made a huge change in children's lives. What made the children learn even though the instructions were in English was the fact they helped each other and worked collaboratively.

Sugata Mitra is an agent of change. An agent of change is a person who ignites change in communities. His vision was to introduce technology to help children's education and to show that children can help each other learn so that teachers didn't need to be physically there to help them.

The effect on the children was that they achieved more because they worked collaboratively together to help each other learn. Some kids that didn't understand english on the computers would ask other children or search using the internet translator in their own language. The experiment was a huge success in children's learning because they had support from a group of grannies in Newcastle called the Granny Cloud.

The Granny Cloud communicates with the kids through Skype. They don't growl at the children they only encourage, support and keep the kids learning going. They also nurture and praise the children.

The  hole in the wall experiment was repeated in many countries because it was a successful experiment. The way that the children worked collaboratively meant they could pass on their learning to other kids who haven't learnt it yet. It’s like Professor Mitra unlocked a door to education for the kids who had never worked on a computer and couldn't understand English. Sugata Mitra is an agent of change.

Maths Activity

This is a maths game I have played. It is called Troy's Toys. It is a hard game because it is mixed. There is a level 2 or level 1. I am playing a level 2 because I have already played the first level. What you have to do is you first have to drag how many items onto the counter then solve the problems with the cost of the items. It then gets harder.

Maths Activity

This is a maths game I have completed. What I had to do was I had to solve the maths problems and drag the answer on top of the question. This game is fun because it helps you with you times tables and I did the 9 times tables. You an pick what times tables you want to do and if you want to drag the answer or if you want to be tested.

These are the smiley faces I got on Xtramaths. I raced against the teacher and this is how many answers I got up to. When you choose to race against the teacher and if you get one answer wrong then you start all over again. I had to start over again only once. This game was very fun and it helped me get faster at solving problems.

My Speech

My Speech

Should teachers drink coffee in class?
I think no because why should they
get a nice hot drink and the rest of
the class just sit and watch them
enjoy it. Why should we dehydrate
desperately waiting for the bell to ring?

Do you want to dehydrate in your
classroom? Just imagine you're sitting
at your desk waiting for the bell to go
and your teacher is drinking her coffee.
Have you ever wondered if your teacher
felt sorry for you and stop drinking
coffee or have they ever seen your mouth
water.

Well I have asked my teacher if she
would stop drinking coffee in front
of us she said “No!”. I also wonder
what if their is a world record on how
much coffee you drink? The one word
that I would describe my teacher is a
coffeeholic.

I think teachers should not drink coffee
because it is not fair on the students
that teachers get to enjoy their drink
and we just sit there all thirsty. It is also
not fair that we the students have too
wait till morning tea or lunch too get a
drink of water

The reason I think teachers should  not drink
coffee is because it has some side effects and
it is also not fair on the students.

If you are starting too drink coffee
and you have noticed it has given
you an extra boost you need to
know that if you keep drinking coffee
like 3 cups a day then you would have
these side effects: panic attacks,
irregular heartbeat, sleep deprivation,
continues stomach problems, sleep disorders,
difficult concentration, and headaches.

Why do teachers drink coffee more
than water? Do you know that coffee
has some very negative side effects and
water does not. But if you drink too much
water then there can be some side effects.

I suggest if the teachers won't stop
drinking coffee then I believe that the
students should at least be allowed
too eat like a bar of chocolate without
getting growled at, because chocolate
and coffee have caffeine in them and if
you drink too much coffee you can
get difficult concentration and headaches
too. Also if you eat too much chocolate
you can get the same side effects.

So teachers should NOT drink coffee
because it is not fair on the students
and remember teachers that you have
being saying too be a role model so
I think you too can be role models
and STOP drinking coffee. Also
remember their can be some very
dangerous side effects too drinking
too much coffee.

This is my speech I wrote. The topic was Should teachers drink coffee in class? I chose to go against so I said NO.
